My father’s innocence project

I don’t normally write about anything personal or family-related in this space, but I wanted to link to this excellent article in the Portland Press Herald about something that happened to my father, Donald Verger, a gifted and acclaimed photographer living in Portland, Maine. You’ll need to read the article to get the full story, but in short: He was a victim of mistaken identity, and was accused of a crime he did not commit. Thankfully, the charges against him have been dropped—as they should have been—but that was after he was forced to spend two nights in jail in Portland, Maine.
My father has decided to turn the experience into something that helps others. For the entire month of March, he is showing his photographs in the North Star Café in Portland. 100% of the profits from the show will go to an excellent organization called The Innocence Project. (The Innocence Project’s blog has also covered the story about my father.)
I encourage you to do more to learn about, and support, this incredibly important cause.
